Why BAD Speakers Get Paid

got my first paid speaking gig in high school. I was speaking at a Fellowship of Christian Athletes event with then Dallas Cowboys head coach, Tom Landry.

At this time I’d only spoken at school and at church, never in front of thousands of people.

It was scary.

And even though I had a story and a testimony (this was one year after my Mom died), I still didn’t
have a clue about how to deliver a keynote.

So, I just spoke from my heart.

And ya know, that’s what becoming a paid speaker’s really all about.
Sharing what you know, sharing your story or sharing your truth.

Getting paid, honestly, is a bonus.
Because I do what I do because it’s what I’m called to do.

That night in Dallas a looooonnnng time ago was the start of my speaking career. They paid me $500.
And I’m pretty sure that by some people’s standards, I wasn’t very good.

But guess what? It didn’t matter if I was the best speaker they’d heard. I’d done what they asked me to do: share my message.

And that’s all you have to do too.
Share your message.
