Hey, Basketball Enthusiasts!
I'm excited you're going to be joining us for a weekend full of fun, food, frolic and fouls!
When I created my first camp 10 years ago I had no idea how much the event would mean to the women who came...as well as me and my staff. What I thought would be a high-flying weekend of women from all backgrounds and ages just playing basketball, turned into 2.5 days of great networking and connecting with some amazing women whose ages ranged from 18 to 62.
From New York to Houston to Phoenix to Los Angeles to Washington D.C., the Fran Harris Fantasy Basketball Camp was something - we learned from evaluations - that women looked forward to each year.
Well, it's back and it's better than ever.
We decided to have the camp during March Madness so that we could create a true basketball environment. And we figured that there's no better time to bring women together than during the height of the NCAA tournament when our true team spirit is at an all time high.
The Fran Harris Fantasy Basketball Camp is an intimate, high-energy weekend where women get to come together to play a game that we all love. It doesn't matter if you're new to the game or if you played back in the 30's, every woman is welcome.
Who Am I?
I was a member of the Houston Comets' first WNBA Championship team in 1997, and captain and leading scorer on the University of Texas's first and only NCAA championship team in 1986. I've played on numerous USA national teams and was an alternate on the'88 Olympic team. I've coached at every level imaginable - little hoopsters, high school, college and pros. 95% of the teams I've played on and coached have won championships. But aside from all of the Xs and Os, I am passionate about creating experiences based on my athletic past. I know that my experiences through basketball have shaped the woman I am today and I'm very grateful.
After retiring from the WNBA in '98 I immediately started covering the league as an announcer for Lifetime Television and ESPN, which gave me the opportunity to stay around the game while exposing me to what would become the basis for my entrepreneurial dreams. I now run a full-scale media company, Fran Harris Enterprises, LLC, that focuses on publishing, film, television, Internet and video games. My exposure as an announcer gave me great insights into the possibilities for me as an athlete AFTER my playing days were over.
Creating the FHFC was not only my way of staying connected to the game, but it's also my way of giving back to a game that's given me so much.
How Does The Camp Work?
My staff and I create an atmosphere that is upbeat and inclusive, so that means that you will find a place in my camp and you will feel at home, I guarantee it. There's no pressure to perform, no percentages to hit and no one yelling at you telling you to "Get your butt on the line". It's as competitive as you make it.
We break you down by skill level NOT by age because to me, "age ain't nothing but a number". We 've had 60-year olds playing on teams with 20-year olds and holding their own! It's your experience and you do as much or as little as you choose.
As your coach, what's most important to me is that you have a fun weekend.
My staff is made up of men and women who boast over 100 years of basketball experience as players and coaches. To be considered staff for my camps you have to possess three key ingredients: passion, energy and positivity. And humor. So, that's four :-).
In other words, we love to have a good time. And as you can see from the video, we deliver. Campers also love the experience.

Here's what's in store for YOU at the FHFC
On Friday night - we'll do some easy registration activities and have an informal meet and greet at one of my favorite sports bars, where we'll watch the games and get to know one another.
On Saturday - we'll start bright and early with drills and games, followed by more networking and TV games that evening. (Wear your favorite team's colors)
On Sunday - I'll let you sleep in an extra 30 minutes and then it's back to the court for more fun! We'll wrap up around 4 pm on that day so that some of you can catch evening flights if you want.
Ladies, let me say this without bias :-). This is one of the best camp experiences you will ever have.
My camps are designed to do one thing: inspire you to live life more fully and to appreciate this great game even more than you already do. It will be 2.5 days that you'll talk about for years go come. And to make sure that you do, we'll include the official camp DVD at no extra charge!
